2005/06 Schedule

Olympic Trials will be held to select team a team to represent the United States on the World Cups in January and March and at the Olympic Games in February. These trials will be held in late December in Fort Kent, Maine. The series of four races is used to generate a points list based upon an athlete’s performance in the competitions compared to the top three finishers. The top four men and top five women from this trials will join Jay Hakkinen, who qualified last season with his excellent World Cup results, at the XX Winter Olympic Games in Italy.

A similar system is used to select athletes to attend Youth & Junior World Championships, which will be this season in Presque Isle, Maine, though the trials will be held at a different venue than the seniors' trials. The youth and junior trials will be held at Mount Itasca near Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

During the season, six North American Cup (NorAm) events will be held, each with two to three competitions. These races are generally open to all competitors and free for spectators. Start times are usually around 10:00 AM, with the zeroing period commencing at 9:00 AM. Check with the race organizer for official times.

The International Biathlon Union requires that the North American Championships be held every season. This event was held last season, but was not attended by most of the elite athletes. This season, the event will be held in Valcartier, Quebec, on the outskirts of Quebec City, at the end of March.

Numerous smaller biathlon races are held throughout the United States, organized by local clubs and volunteers. That schedule is not available at this time.
